Any future war in this country that is fighting for the same principles that Washington's Army was fighting for will have to find ways to do the same. Censorship, secrecy, propaganda, morale building and disinformation may seem like a step backwards, but if done correctly helps win freedom.

There's a grain of truth in that statement, but it oversimplifies the Revolutionary War. The protests leading up to the war was largely about economics, but the war wasn't just economics. It was more so about political sovereignty, identity, security and freedoms.
Freedoms and security to do what? Make money as they saw fit, whether it was crossing the Appalachian mountains or to the ability to own slaves on their own terms. Take a look at the April 12 Halifax Resolve from Halifax, NC.

We need to a communications committee, and buy in from the rest of us on messaging. It's not going to come from leaders.
Trump is already doing this. Both the pressure & the propaganda. He claims he is doing the work of the righteous. All sides do this in war, but it is a betrayal of the truth; a principle the Left says it supports. It may be necessary, but it does real damage & risks the validity of the win.

Specifically, I think it is very difficult to unwind “spinning” information. I think it is very difficult to give up power. Very few people are able to go from being an autocrat to being a regular citizen. Look at the Arab Spring. I don’t think any of them are still democratic 15 years later.
That's a fantastic point. With times of distrust in all information, creating more reasons to distrust seems irresponsible. The age of instant information is not comparable to the Pony Express(years after revolution,yes). People demand transparency, this builds trust and the feeling of agency.
I was listening to a story about Truman (I think). When he was called “the candidate of the thinking man” he responded with, “thank you, but I need more votes than that.” Meaning that there has to be an emotional connection as well. I don’t know what the answer is, but Ds don’t connect in that way.
This regime has been able to successfully dupe their constituents into giving up freedom. They preyed on that emotional connection. The answer can be found when we all are free of fascists. Sadly our domestic fight is weakening our borders allowing China and Russia to become a greater threat.
Honestly, it’s been happening since 9/11/2001. Probably before that. But agree, the current admin has definitely accelerating the loss of personal liberties.
The other side clearly understands these skills. It's time the side of right learns how to properly apply them as well. Particularly propaganda and morale building.
