A study of France's ebike grant program found it saved about twice the carbon per euro spent, compared to electric car subdidies.

Link? I’d love to read it. Also, were they driving giant US SUVs as well? But again, not an either or. We need both.

This is far from the only study to show strong evidence for ebike subsidies in carbon reduction, it's just one of the first examples I found to make the specific comparison with electric car subdidies transportforqualityoflife.com/wp-content/u...

Thanks for sending. Will give it a read. But again, not an either or situation in my opinion. We need to “yes and” everything. If you can bike, awesome, please do. I walked today. If you have to drive though, please get rid of that old oil burner and get an EV if you can afford to.

The problem is it's not "both", active travel is treated as an impossible expense and car subsidies as natural and inevitable.

I mean the study shows a subsidy for e-bikes so that doesn’t seem to be true then? At least one place can compare them. 🤷‍♂️ … or we can do what we have in the US now. No subsidies for e-bikes or EVs but massive subsidies for petroleum… not very helpful. If we could eliminate those that would be great!

That’s an important but different point I’m an e-bike rider, I do not want to be at traffic lights stuck behind the elderly diesel car of another e-bike rider Unless we get people to replace their combustion cars with BEVs, then them owning e-bikes is not going to clean up our air
