I often get similar reactions when I debate w ppl. Usually we wnd on them saying that the way ahead is new, fraught, very dangerous, scary. To which I agree and point out that THIS IS WHY YOU DON'T LET FASCISTS IN THE HOUSE. Once they are in, all bets are off.

It’s going to require brazen and, often disgusting, behavior on our part. But moving forward is more important than a tea party.

And it'll be different than the often-cited German example, for many reasons (economy, political system, geography,....)
