This is my biggest area of concern. Okafor may be a good signing. The jury well and truly out on everyone else. And there's a bloody load of them.
Also, it's hard to judge new signings when they're playing with strangers, essentially. Bijol, Bournauw, etc, need time to get to grips with both English football and their new teammates. It's the likes of Longstaff that worry me!
I'm probably being a bit knee-jerk in fairness! Time will tell, and hopefully, my fears will be allayed.
I thought Longstaff grew into the game well. We know he’s a battling midfielder, and pretty much nothing else. He wasn’t made for games like last night
That was always going to be a big challenge. Important work to be done this next few days
Personally, I thought he should be given a go. I’m not convinced by what we’ve seen so far that it was the right decision.
I'm not going to get too irate over last night; it was a squad run-out for what is essentially our reserves. It's what we have in the squad to deal with Newcastle that concerns me... our business has been a bit exposed this week.
Farke’s short sighted decision pre season to play Struijk with Rodon rather than Bijol is coming home to roost. He looked rusty as hell first half. Now it’s a big decision who to play on Saturday. To me this window feels like a mirror of last season when it comes to filling gaps. That worked out ok
I’m assuming it was because Bijol was banned for the Everton game.
Indeed, hence my ‘short sighted’ comment
I mean, there's going to be an adjustment period for anyone coming in from a different country/league... we have to allow for that. My issue is the lack of variety/quality in the most important area of the pitch.
I’ve moaned on about this plenty recently, but you’ll not win enough matches in the Prem without any attacking minded midfielders in your squad. I’m genuinely not sure Farke gets that?
And quite frankly, even if he doesn’t, the recruitment team should…
Always thought Samuel Sáiz, beating a player, made us difficult to play against, drawing out defenders and creating space around the box. Pablo is also a classic example, but would the 49ers pay big money for a creative midfielder?
I posted this last night… Samu Siaz would have these Wednesday youngsters running after shadows. Remember him Leeds fans, the last specialised AM we signed… 8 fucking years ago… #lufc
And we’re selling the lad who offered a bit..
I like Largie but wingers aren't our issue. We need far better 8s and someone, anyone who can play 10.
Amen to that
We were shit this time last year, and shit the year before that. But we added to the squad late and Farke managed to get a tune out of the players as autumn wore on. It's a different, more demanding league, but let's hope we can limp to the international break with some new players to work with.
We’ll lose Saturday and most likely at Fulham, because both sides have better squads and better managers. We just have to stick together as we’ve some winnable games after that
Which teams are you thinking of, other than the two promoted with us?
Farke had better players and a stronger squad than any other team in championship. Now he has poorer players and weaker squad than all but two teams in PL!
But he demonstrated a clear ability to shape coherent teams after fractured, unhelpful starts. Let’s afford him the same scope once the window closes.
