To understand how the average wage can be very misleading, let's use an ex of 5 people: Four ppl earn $15 per hr. One person earns $100 per hr. Average Wage (Mean): ($15 + $15 + $15 + $15 + $100) / 5 = $32 per hr. Median Wage: If you line up the wages, the middle value is $15 per hr.

In this example, the $32 average is technically correct but entirely misleading. The $15 median wage is a far better indicator of what most people in the group actually earn. A similar dynamic occurs on a larger scale with Idaho's wage data. Our median wage is $22hr. Still higher than most jobs.
