I really don’t understand why you feel that way.
I really don’t understand why you feel that way.
pretty common for adult adoptees particularly those who were paid for to feel this way! i certainly do.
Why do you feel the need to defend it?
Because each adoption has its own set of circumstances, and we don’t know the particulars of this one.
So you’re white knighting for a rich celebrity?
Of course not. Why are condemning a person with absolutely no information?
The information is wealthy celebrities Brown (age 21) and Bongiovi (age 23) adopted a baby. Adoption is the practice of changing the baby's legal birth records; issuing a new birth certificate with the adopters (Brown & Bongiovi) listed as parents. 🥚
Something tells me you’re an adopter.
I am not. And I don’t want to discount anyone’s experience.
But you jumped in here and asked why we feel this way. I thought you wanted to learn.
Of course I do. But you haven’t given me anything other than the parents are young and rich. That’s not an automatic disqualification. I do want to know why you feel this feel way, that’s why I asked.
From CDC adoption demand report, "… nearly 1 million women were seeking to adopt children in 2002 (i.e., they were in demand for a child), whereas the domestic supply of infants relinquished at birth or within the first month of life and available to be adopted had become virtually nonexistent.” 1/
Per the report, which is older than Millie Bobby Brown, the domestic infant supply is near zero. The only way this pair of barely legal adults is passing the "home study" is by paying extremely high fees to a private agency. 2/
Re read @loftwerks.bsky.social response to you.
We gave you so much more.
@loftwerks.bsky.social laid out the information really well. If you’re not white knighting what are you doing?
If the entire system of adoption exploits birth parents and treats humans like objects it doesn’t matter whether there are individual success stories. Individual success stories can be used to justify lots of horrible systems.
Were you purchased? I was.
Listening to a wide range of adoptee stories is a good place to begin your road to understanding. There are several podcasts such as Adoption: The Making of Me and Adoptees On that take a deep dive. Listening to the stories of birth mothers around the world is also vital to understanding. HTH
