I’ve always seen it as the painful aspect of mega evolution occurs when the bond between trainer and pokemon isn’t strong enough and it’s forced instead of happening thanks to the bond

I wonder if mask was the problem. Haven't seen Andrade's matches as La Sombra, but from the sounds of things, he could wrestle much better in that.

It was pretty much a combination of the mask, the awful blue lights, and Mistico basically having no time to adjust to the E ring style. Covered eyed masks can defo work out well, hell one of the best in the world right now, Shun Skywalker, has had that kind of mask for years now.

Really wish to get into Dragon Gate to watch Shun, but no time as is XD

Yeah I think the official victory pose puts it at a Y shape but it can be X. It really is good.

I think it's a clear Y because of the shoulder pads and feathers under the belt. Like, the "X" stance is just regular Hawlucha, but the Y motif with the costume is unique to the mega.

Yeah that’s what Mr Tahko and I discussed. The Y is the definitive look they were going for and it’s emphasized multiple times in the reveal

Most of the original megas are Hoenn Pokemon though. SV didn't have the Kanto starters until Home updated when they were added with Galar and Hisui starters. SM had references to DP, Johto and more. Like yes, Kanto gets refed a lot since it the most well known, but all gens get lots of rep.

The problem is, I think ZA might not have abilities just like Arceus didn’t, meaning that megas might end up feeling like ‘Hawlucha but he’s more powerful’ rather than giving them something interesting, like for example Charizard X, Pinsir, Sableye
