Having seen Edward in action, & having dealt with many of the family personally, this doesn't shock me. He's the lowest rung of the family in aptitude, but made a power play for control. Likely controlled by others. Ted brought in Trey Smith as CEO 25y ago to mentor Edward. Trey left in 6 months.
