Yes.. there are intellectuals in those fields, artists, dancers, dreamers, poets, gifted teachers, leaders, etc. But born poor, born brown, born on the ‘wrong’ side of a border - struggling to keep themselves & family alive. ND, recall the story about the migrant boy whose art was extraordinary?

I may not have told about one of my Mexican migrant students who astounded our art teacher with his extraordinary natural gift. I bought one of his paintings of a Mexican courtyard. He quickly returned to the fields to help his family. Sweet boy of 15 years. His gift lost to the world, most likely.

I’d wish to know more about him. Who knows what potentials & gifts are lost to the desperation of survival?

People tend to see the brown people in the fields as being in their rightful, designated place in the scheme of things. Passing scenery - almost charming. “Look sweetheart, they’re picking our strawberries!”

These days, it’s moved to “They’re eating our dogs!”

It’s darker than what you may think. Here in NC, (a GOP controlled state), we are completely free of any Ice raids. Why you say? Agriculture here is mostly mechanized, tobacco and soy beans. So that part of the GOP base doesn’t have a need for migrant labor. 1/2

The booming industry here is the building industry. Virtually all of the labor IS MIGRANT. So why no raids you ask? Hmm, could be that the corps doing the building are all GOP connected? Remember Pulte, senior member of the Orange One’s cabinet? Coincidence? Or exploitation?
