SCOTUS can, at any damn time, say the whole project of political gerrymandering is illegal and we can go back to a detente. They are just pathologically incapable of using math to make decisions on this topic, except one person one vote, and majority minority… and so on.

Honestly, ruling that you can pack all black people together because the are Democrats but you can't pack all Republicans together because that is racist against white people is in the cards.

Why do that when you can say it's ok to draw lines based on partisanship and so it's ok to pack all the Democrats into a district and if that just happens to pack all the black people into one district, that's none of SCOTUS's business.

No, that's lready the law of the land, as I'm sure you know. I'm talking about why SCOTUS will say Texas gerrymandering is okay, but California can't.

They'll probably just say California can't use the new maps until they've heard arguments and rule on it and then just delay until after the midterms to say they can redraw their districts.

We'll have to see. They could just deny them on the shadow docket so they don't have to establish a precedent and can let the media spin up a reasoning for them
