I think part of it is that Trump fell for the Republicans propaganda. They’ve been referring to the ACA as “Obamacare” for the entirety of its existence. They’ve worked so hard to keep their constituents from making the connection between what Obama did and the help that they were getting.

And it worked! More than half the nation think that the ACA and Obamacare are two different things. And at least as many people don’t realize that the ACA works by expanding Medicare/medicaid. But now it’s clear that it worked to well, they built this up like a dragon to be slayed.
