In the end I probably think Gavin would find it difficult in a national election. I think it is a valid criticism in general that the Democratic brand is “toxic” and overly judgmental. I want a Democratic leader who can unite a divided country and venture into hostile territory.
I have no problem cheering as Newsom pushes back on MAGA Republican policies. But, when it comes to the next election cycle, I am confident there will be much better options.

I've not yet seen these podcasts & while I really like Newsom, I concede his rep of being Caif Governor alone dooms POTUS ambitions. STILL, i do think engaging with at least some of the Right's leaders can't become some kind of litmus test. Division within ourselves will be politically fatal for us.

In general, I tend to be skeptical of "purity tests" when a fragmented group is trying to build cohesion and traction, but in this case I think you're onto something. Failure to address this kind of incongruity is one of the root causes of the mess we're in today.

I don’t exactly feel it’s a black and white issue. And, it’s not a regime bow. In fact, he’s been very pro-trans rights. Yet, he did say that in sports, there does seem to be a fairness conflict. It’s complex, especially with youth. I’d be interested in what stances are made by those it effects.
He also said he's against healthcare for trans youth in his most recent tirade. As somebody who is trans, and who not only didn't have the opportunity to transition in adolescence but had a surgical procedure to force a puberty I didn't want, I am extremely against government restrictions.

Yes. Everybody's care plan is tailored to their needs. For kids, having some additional assessment and using blockers to allow more time to decide were already the compromise position to make cisgender society less nervous about it. Ideally, hormones should start where puberty would normally start.
