There are way too many barriers to normal people being preselected in the big parties, and it’s way too expensive and difficult for most people to run as an indie; we don’t get the best people AT ALL, except by accident
People also have to rally sufficiently to find & support an Indie & most people just don’t have the time or the will. Climate200 does a good job of helping to support community candidates but they can’t be everywhere. It’s a shame, community organising might give the ALP & LNP a decent fright.
Very true. Lots of enthusiasm, but constantly learning on the job and worrying about either getting it wrong, or doing something the AEC will frown upon. Major parties with full time staffers have every advantage
