Arsenal adding Hincapie, in addition to being a solid move in its own right because he's a good player who does Calafiori-like things, is made even better by freeing up Myles Lewis-Skelly to play in the midfield, his more natural position. www.nytimes.com/athletic/657...

Yup. I see this as a way of freeing Myles up to play in midfield long-term and see Merino sail into the sunset next year most likely.

Freeing Myles Lewis-Skelly from LB is giving me Bukayo Saka vibes. Remember, Saka broke into the team as a fullback out of necessity then moved to his more natural and better position as an attacking winger. The same blossoming into a star could happen with MLS getting to move up the formation.

Just wondering from where the opportunities would come with Zubimendi, Rice, Ødegaard and now Eze in that mix. MLS slots in best as a left 8, and Dec & Eze have that spot pretty well locked down.

MLS is playing in midfield as it is. There will be games when Arteta wants that extra midfielder playing in front of a back three almost, skipping the overlapping. We saw it against Leeds when Calafiori went off. Arteta will go full control freak if he needs to. MLS is perfect for that.

I seem to remember Arsenal being linked with him about a year ago

Who do you see MLS replacing in the midfeild? The first choice is going to be Ode, Zubi and Rice. On top of this, you need to factor in Merino, Nwaneri, and to a lesser extent Eze. I am not sure he will get as much game time, barring injuries.

I don't think he replaces anybody in the starting lineup in the immediate term, but he can be an understudy / sub. That's most likely Rice right now but who knows how he'll develop. In a perfect world, all the first choice players play a little bit less and the depth guys play a bit more.

This is great but we need to off-load some players. This wages of this squad is insane
