Time for parents to have their kids friends over and have a book club featuring these books. Or parents send your kid to school with one of the banned books in the kid’s backpack. Didn’t come from the school library or the classroom so nothing the UCP can do about it.

I know they're not inclined to listen, but this is a good time to write to your MLA. Also as municipal elections are this fall, to indicate to candidates how important it is to adequately fund the public library so they can continue to provide universal and democratic access.
On the other hand, to tell a bunch of teenagers they are not allowed to do something, is one hell of an incentive for them to read these books!

I received an excellent education in Alberta in the 60s and 70s. Catholic High School. It was a rich province. We talked about Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 and how we never burn books. We don't need agree with them but all the knowledge being destroyed is shameful. Alberta is drunk on oil. Pity.

Here's a thought. Buy the book...read it at home. Take the iPad away and spend some quality time with your child. It's not a schools job to raise your kid. They provide the fundamentals. That's all.
