Next to Caravaggio, no painter moves me like Artemisia Gentileschi. Not just her work which (for the early 17th century) was revolutionary in portraying fierce women, but her fearlessness in pursuing charges against her rapist despite knowing society would scorn her. A role model and total badass!

As a woman I feel so ignorant that it never occurred to me that I have never seen a painting from that time of a female artist. How? 🤯🤯

This is how to deal with a rapist.
Don’t ever hear anything on the evening news about men being raped, being killed by a spouse, boyfriend, or stranger, being attacked while jogging, disappearing, etc. It’s almost daily to hear about it for women. Might change if more women started fixing the problems themselves.

Golden Age when they scoop us up for a nickel on the dollar and"make America gag again" nearly choking us to death. Just part of his plan and the ones that don't say anything are right there in it with him. Kind of like rape, gang rape in these times ...by "Lawless and Odor".

I love this painting. The Walters Art Museum in Baltimore has a great selection of this scene but I don't remember the painter, I am horrible with 17th century painters.
The Detroit Institute of Art has some Gentileschis. I used to love sitting in front of them and experiencing the phenomenon.
This is so cool - I love seeing this kind of stuff from the past. It’s just such a nice refresher to know that not all women were pushovers at a time that they seemed it from the outside.

Same. I got to see Judith Slaying Holofernes and several of her other paintings at The Uffuzi last year. Her work is incredible!!
