Whoa, amazing!
Whoa, amazing!
My husband was a bit disturbed by how excited I was to see this when we went to Italy a few years ago.
As a woman I feel so ignorant that it never occurred to me that I have never seen a painting from that time of a female artist. How? 🤯🤯
Indeed.
Looks like what we would like to do to trump, musk, vance, navarro and abbott. That’s just the beginning
Upsi....
Seems appropriate now.
This is how to deal with a rapist.
Don’t ever hear anything on the evening news about men being raped, being killed by a spouse, boyfriend, or stranger, being attacked while jogging, disappearing, etc. It’s almost daily to hear about it for women. Might change if more women started fixing the problems themselves.
Thank you for introducing me to this. Can’t wait to dive deeper.
There's a historical fiction novel from a couple of years ago based on Artemisia's life called "Disobedient" which is a great read! 🙂
Golden Age when they scoop us up for a nickel on the dollar and"make America gag again" nearly choking us to death. Just part of his plan and the ones that don't say anything are right there in it with him. Kind of like rape, gang rape in these times ...by "Lawless and Odor".
The scene as painted by Trophime Bigot (ca. 1640). I love the dark background with the candle providing the only light.
From the Walters Art Museum's permanent collection.
I love this painting. The Walters Art Museum in Baltimore has a great selection of this scene but I don't remember the painter, I am horrible with 17th century painters.
The Detroit Institute of Art has some Gentileschis. I used to love sitting in front of them and experiencing the phenomenon.
This is so cool - I love seeing this kind of stuff from the past. It’s just such a nice refresher to know that not all women were pushovers at a time that they seemed it from the outside.
The 🩸is 🤌
Here is the Caravaggio. This is the background on my laptop until it's over
I love how male artists always portray Judith as a bit timid and reluctant but Artemisia's Judith is like "bitch please...give me that damn knife!" 😎
Yes, Caravaggio's Judith is very demure!
Sorry, but no. She is clearly better than Caravaggio. BTW I saw this painting in person last year, and it is dramatically better in the pigment (as it where)
Same. I got to see Judith Slaying Holofernes and several of her other paintings at The Uffuzi last year. Her work is incredible!!
So jealous of the both of you!
We are headed back to this shit!
Badass to be sure, and shared. Thank you for that
