The term is misunderstood. It was created by queer ppl from South America who were calling out the idea that masculino=neutrality. I see people say it was invented by white ppl or diaspora folks in the US and it was not.

All Latin-based languages have terms that refer to humankind in the masculine. Like many languages their version of the term Latino refers to both masculine and feminine depending on context. And yes, it is being forced upon us in many ways such as work rules and regulations dictating language use.

There are many examples, particularly in government, universities and non-profits, that were pushing the use of the term. So much so that some state legislatures felt the need to ban the use of the term. Frankly, people just don't like the term and I respect their reasons.

Interesting. Many of us have reasons why things should be a certain way but I prefer to start with the way things are and move from there and address the obstacles as they arise to make the change more palatable to the public.
My point is that it's entirely arbitrary. Gender, terminology, ethnicity...do the people affected have agency? Does the term rob them of self respect, culture, or reinforce stereotypes?
