Why saying "Free Palestine" isn't antisemitic. "It involves rejecting the politics of ethnic supremacy, or an ethnostate, and instead embracing a future based on equality and justice for everyone." By @abemarquez.bsky.social The full story: lataco.com/opinion-shat...

I am against that war criminal (and yet-to-be convicted felon) running Israel and committing genocide. I am against the current government of Israel. I am NOT anti-Semitic!!! This willful annihilation of innocent civilians MUST STOP! The U.S. is guilty of aiding and abetting this continuing horror.

The "antisemitic" label bugs me. Yes, Jews are Semites, but so are Palestinians.

There are no human races. Unless you mean language families, the term makes as much sense as claiming that British people are Anglo-Saxon.

It's a mythological ancestry thing (also linguistic; peoples whose ancestors spoke Aramaic)--Semites are supposedly descended from Shem, one of the sons of Noah.

Correct, but then the term went through the weird permutations of 19th c "science," with no distinction between anthropology, ethnography, history, linguistics, etc. It was all "natural philosophy" of "Völker," and by 1879 Marr specified it into the enemy of Germanic people. tinyurl.com/4jd65rut

Of course there are...they are cultural, not genetic. Humans are social animals and band together into groups, define themselves as they see fit. Clans, tribes, races, defined by language, origins, heritage, Caucasian, African, Puerto Rican, Basque, etc.

That's not how the term "human races" is used unless one is more open to social Darwinism and ither racist bs than one ought to be.

The idea that human races do not exist can also be used by racists to dismiss claims of discrimination and persecution.

Wasn't Gaza an ethnostate? Wouldn't that be the nature of any Palestinian state? or would Jews be welcome there? Are there any middle eastern Muslim states embracing equality and justice for all? Shiites? Gay people? Jews? So, of course it isn't antisemitic as a phrase but as an implementation.

The rest of the time, since WW2, it's been controlled by Egypt, Great Britain, Israel, and I'm probably forgetting some other nation. Essentially, Palestinians have had no chance to become an ethnostate, never was before WW2, and never after.

But given the opportunity, an Islamic state would become multicultural, safe for gay people, welcoming to all religions being practiced, and allow women to participate fully in government. You know, like all Islamic states.

Please, list the Arab gulf states that are welcoming to all religions, sexualities, ethnicities. One doesn't need history. Just look at current examples. In which of these states, including Gaza under Hamas, would an openly gay person not be thrown off a roof?

They were the same as in Western cultures until the West started playing kingmaker.

No, it wasn't. Jesus, the history is easy to look up. At one point, very briefly, in the control of Hamas after a period of Israeli aggression in the 1990s. It was still not an ethnostate under Hamas control.

So under Hamas, the elected government, people of any gender were free to be openly gay? Hamas allowed Gaza to be a multicultural wonderland? Wow, what a great world it would be if we had more islamo-fascist death cults in charge.

For one, that's not the definition of ethnostate. For another, you're going to judge an ancient culture based on a fringe group briefly in control? Do you also hate Germans? Their actual ethnostate lasted roughly as long as Hamas control of Palestine, with a larger body count.

Germans? Sad reach. Hamas controls Gaza for two decades. Long enough to judge them. Given political control, and almost endless international funding, Hamas built military structures and didn't improve the lives of citizens. So...a failed ethnostate.

The topic was the Middle East and governments. Did you want to talk about Asia, or did you simply need to move on from the topic as there are no examples of pluralistic regimes there?

Meh. Should have fact checked myself on the length. However, I'm correct on body count. Germans also kept gay people incarcerated until 1968 (east Germany) and 1969 (west Germany). So, my point still stands. Not a sad reach. Western history is nasty to Muslims and Jews, PoC, and LGBTQ.
