The lighthouse in Marblehead, Ohio, on the shores of Lake Erie, was the first to have a female attendant. Her husband and son both died of small pox from burying the dead infected who were thrown off board of ships in order to land. They'd wash up to their shore. π

Imagine carrying buckets of lamp oil up steep ladders twice a day to keep the wick lit. Also, managing a farm, animals, and gardens to be self-sustaining. Yes, she was a strong woman. I marvel at the strength of the many women who go unrecognized in history. Time for herstory.πͺ
