in fairness, I have less understanding of what the other countries of the UK are like, and in my experience defaulting to "it's the fault of the English" leaves you correct 98% of the time

an extremely fair attitude, & it is probably fair to say at least some of it is English influence. not that we were colonised like Aotearoa etc were, indeed Scotland were often enthusiastic participants, but obviously a LONG history of invasion and war and intermarrying and such

there is a very pernicious form of Scottish Nationalism that tries to paint us as somehow Better Than The English, or their first colonial victims, a sort of seeking to let us off the hook for Britain's atrocities. it is just...way more complex than that.
