Eileen I take this ageism with a pinch of salt, remember Brexit was 48% Remain & 52% Brexit a difference of 4% & as far as I am concerned if young ppl had bothered to get off their backside, gone out to vote, we would not be in position we are today.
Hear hear. I was shocked by friends my age or younger who voted Leave or not at all.
Thank you so much, I don;t wish to demean young ppl but I cannot stand by & see oldies blamed for all that happened, young & old have all played a part in this.
I agree. I have a good friend in her 70s (just) who is and was very pro Remain.
We certainly have a role to make the case for voting. My children will vote. They will want to vote. And encourage their friends to do likewise.

Well they shouldn't have, the voted was gifted to us by ordinary ppl fighting for it, some died for it & as such is privilege we should all use.
In the words of my A level physics teacher - to those of us who had turned 18 - “the least you apathetic lot can do is go in and spoil your ballot papers” 👍 I’m sure I voted, but I’ve no idea who for now. It was a very long time ago 🙄
Absolutely, there are some constituencies where if all of those who didn't vote had turned up and spoiled their ballot papers 'spoiled ballots' would outnumber the papers in favour of the winning candidate. Politicians would HAVE to take notice of our dissatisfaction with the voting system.
If only our teachers today would do this, say again Politics should be on National curriculum, teach how ppl died to give us the vote, how to vote, importance of vote & how it could change our & more importantly their lives, the power they have in their own hands.

I seem to recall that when I was in the 6th form, back in the 70's, we did a couple of periods a week that they called Citizenship, which did actually cover things like voting, marriage, budgeting etc - quite sensible!

This is exactly it. If they spoil the ballot they're recorded as voters and politicians might actually try to win their vote.
Exactly. Where were the 18-24 year olds in 2016? It is well known that the older generation are more likely to vote than the younger cohorts. It will be interesting to see what happens at the next GE now we have to supply photo ID. The younger generation have been unfairly marginalised by this.
Yes & done deliberately. Will young ppl have learned their lesson & vote in the next GE, I do hope so.
