"Certs bankroll anti-segregation civil war movies" is definitely a thing in the alt 50s
"Certs bankroll anti-segregation civil war movies" is definitely a thing in the alt 50s
southern states probably crackdown on them hard but that makes them illicit so you have people like driving or taking the train up to like DC or Jersey to go watch them in the theaters
are you old enough to remember firsthand when Roots came out. That shit was WILD.
i'm 27 lol
lol wow. I’m telling you, Roots was like 12 years a slave dropped in 1977.
i think Star Wars is equivalent to Jurassic Park as the "oh woah they really blended practical and computer visual effects incredibly well" movie
How long does the Hays Code survive, and does it fall to Cert action or just knock-on effects? For that matter, how long does the studio system survive?
The code cannot survive because you just threw a huge pile of stuff that obliterates it into the mix and everyone is gonna want to see it. You might see, like, a collection of shitty super-bowdlerized versions but there's a limit to how much you can do.
IMO, the big thing won't be the Hays Code dying. It'll be the lack of an MPAA to take its place.
oh i think Hays code gets yoinked in the '46 to '48 period in part to Cert influence
If there's even one cinephile in the fleet with a high-capacity drive full of torrented movies things are gonna blow _way up_, possibly well before then
oh cert media is a whole other thing
the digital to analog conversion is convienent narratively because it does allow *real* cert media material to be like straight up mythical
What words and phrases become the DVTL equivalent of 'banned in boston' as a label?
related to all this but there are going to be SO MANY conspiracy theories about the division of NARA that handles cert materials, not helped by the fact that all the hard copies of official pre-shift stuff are stored in a datafarm/archive beneath a giant polished basalt cube on the marin headlands
And inside is Family Guy
exactly
Family Guy is like TS/SCI until 2042 lol
SAP called DRUNKEN CLAM
Post shift vignette of everyone wondering what the fuck the Certs are doing in the SCIF because they disappear into it with boxes of food every Friday evening for years on end (it's the One Piece watch party night)
this is not a place of honor
Introducing Family Guy to 1948 America is entirely too dangerous. Looney Tunes Demon Core
people will talk in hushed whispers about a leaked secret film thats soooo crazy and it'll be like Ted2 or Undercover Brother
more like Porky’s. People will be astounded by a brief period from 1978-1988 when date rape was played for laughs.
Lowkey I wonder if that Robert Rodriguez film, 100 Years, which won't be unsealed until 2115 could be like that.
Molasses tomorrow will bring forth Cognac. John has a long mustache. If you touch the'fro, you go to go
nobody's quite sure why there's a security level labeled "DBZ", or what the mystery files are
Imagine Tentacle Hentai being distributed through 1950's Suburbia. The Hays Code would get repealed because it'd be useless as law when you have so many decades of fucked up shit to show.
Someone in the DOJ in 1953 having to decide whether to bring charges against someone for illegally distributing a 2032 remake of Police Squad! where half of the actors are mid-range Kpop idols (it was financed by the ROK MND, for some reason)
Idols who can barely act starring in a Police Squad! remake might actually be one of the best dumb ideas i've come up
Indian-American action movie where Jason Statham and NTR Jr both play the same character of "normal guy who is secretly soooooo badass" and have to kill a bunch of criminals
War 2 but's a crossover between the Hollywood War with Jet Li and Statham and the Bollywood War with Hrithik Roshan and NTR Jr. (in the sequel).
oh God some italian reactionary government in the late 2020s drops a massive dime on restarting the italian film industry to only crank out a new run of Giallo films
If Italy restarts their films, can they at least get one or two absolutely amazing peplum films out during their run? Maybe a spaghetti western as a treat?
I’m now wondering about what films do break containment. How wild would it be for gershwin or webber to discover that a song they’re still workshopping is getting used as the backing for a serious or comedic scene in a future film. Or for another film maker to realize a joke in the film about them?
its a fairly massive pain in the ass to convert digital to film so it'll be fairly limited but rumors will be massive
Wait. They arrive in World War 2. How does Walt deal with the fact that his little studio is a globe spanning media empire with generations of memes and pop cultural cache? There’s gonna be at least one disney nerd in the fleet complaining about missing a ride that won’t exist for a century.
This is entirely a tangent, but now I’m imagining some less ethical, or else far more fanatic fans pooling their pay to buy out anaheim before the hotels get there. Unless they jump straight to Florida and trying to get Epcot running as an actual city.
Actually, the civil rights movement's legal struggle also having a massive free speech element, which would be an interesting topic.
More so than OTL that is.
Do you have like a wiki or something where I can look up what all these words mean?
Certs = the time traveling future military people, short for Certain Forces DVTL = Double Victory Timeline
my pinned comment is a good starting place!
D'oh! I shoudl have thought of that.
1955’s Glory, with James Dean as Shaw, Poitier as Trip and Woody Strode as Rawlins would have been a hell of a movie.
I wonder how the american public writ large would react to a movie like Django
Probably pretty well; Southerners would bitch, but there would always be the kids who snuck out to see it without permission and ended up enthralled by the technique. Fifteen years later, they're making movies of their own.
