Park District is recommending burying lake shore drive
They are not going to bury it how I want them too.
I’m so excited about this!
seems kind of like a boondoggle, but if they want to pretend climate change does not exist, i can seen my goals met serendiptiously
When that option was brought up in connection with north DLSD, the big concerns were: flooding/seeping engineering challenges, $$$, and the fact that long car tunnels require huge ventilation shafts at street level, which are unsightly for neighbors.
I don't like it because it's still accommodating the same number of cars. It would greatly improve the park though, I'll admit.
I love the idea of burying DLSD, but it would take 20 years to approve, fund and build. I just want them to fix the darn pedestrian crosswalks in the mean time, I am begging
there is a certain length you can build without ventilation, up to about 1000’ and we obviously have things like wacker drive that are much longer (and do include some ventilation). it helps that LSD bans trucks too so hazmat is not a concern.
the proposed tunnel looks to be about 2000’ so it would need something, either a significant break in the middle open to the sky or an active ventilation system. the cost of ventilation is not always prohibitive though! the requirements are based on modeling and tailored to each situation.
i think the solution they used on the ronda litoral in barcelona would work well here since the fountain is 8-10’ higher than the lakefront promenade. keeping LSD open on one side behind an arched wall avoids the need for active ventilation too
Oh! From my wildest dreams!
Park District has prepared a presentation for an ultrawide monitor. Dont think I've ever seen this before
park district in the 23rd century
Lol how many years will this take?
I wish they would shut it down, but this is better than nothing!
