On a more basic economic level, if someone trained at a British University takes a job in the UK and contributes taxes while probably not costing the NHS anything, that seems better for the government.

We have a foreign graduate employee who we kept on after their graduate visa expired, just came in under the new threshold. Absolutely a net contributor to the UK economy, by any measure. The country would be stupid to kick them out.

No, no. You’ve got it all wrong. We don’t want clever people over here. We don’t want people to know that the forrins are as good as us. We don’t want them to pay their taxes and contribute to our public services. The sooner our people are grubbing around in the dirt, the better.
