A picture from the 1971 Jesus Christ Superstar. It has a certain Hieronymus Bosch quality. Above the stage, five men in yellow and reddish robes and elaborate hats are on a floating bridge. Below, on the stage, is a procession of people in paler robes, several of whom are carrying large props on sticks. These props resemble spherical bacteria with cillia, jellyfish, and other abstract shapes. Some of the people in the procession are also carrying a litter with a long-haired man in a white robe.

Saying the 1972 LA production had a set designed to look like the human body is slightly overselling it. It had a big ol' face and big ol' hands, though. imgbox.com/OCqWSnU2

On either side of the stage are huge hands, palms upturned. The aesthetic seems to be evoking prehistoric art, and the vibe is of a giant sinking into the floor, crying out to the sky before it submerges completely. There are people onstage but I have no idea what they're doing, it's really hard to focus on anything but the giant screaming face.
