See, e.g., Obama’s “guns and religion” (obviously, inarguably true), Hillary’s “basket of deplorables” (ditto), Biden’s (debatable) “garbage.”

walz calling the gop “weirdos” was another one that did well and he got a talking to from the consultants and we never heard it again
James Bennett has a wonderful thread refuting this myth: bsky.app/profile/uber...
It was one consultant and they said Lol No Thanks to him. This myth will never die, it seems.
Then why did they stop saying it?
They didn't bsky.app/profile/mist...
Ok sure bud one time, one screenshot, that definitely absolutely beyond a shadow of a doubt proves that you’re right! We all know the “weird” thing is just the epitome of them doing what the establishment says and losing because of it.
Because it’s in the same vein as them bringing on Liz Cheney and trying to appeal to this fabled “swing voter” instead of fucking making the case to actual democrats. Same mistakes again and again and I find it concerning the way you feel the need to defend a failed establishment.
No we don't know that because it didn't happen. You said they stopped saying it, and I provided evidence to the contrary. Until you can offer a link that has evidence that proved that he was "muzzled", this conversation is over. Take the L.
Thanks for being a shining example of why democrats lose so fucking always
Yeah, I literally worked on the campaign and we were giving out "Don't Be Weird: Vote Dem" stickers until we ran out in late October. I feel crazy hearing these takes.
The dismissal of eyewitness accounts in order to feed this "stabbed-in-the-back" myth is concerning.
I remember this article—it was very early in the campaign and it’s clearly not the whole story because shortly thereafter Walz stopped using the line and we never heard it again.
i remember hearing it for about a week and then never again
bsky.app/profile/uber...
Screenshot if you don't want to go to X, Walz said it two days before the election, November 3rd
Ok? I’m sure he used the word “weird” at least a few times in 100 days but the point is it started as the main message of the campaign and quickly faded away.
"shortly thereafter Walz stopped using the line and we never heard it again" - you, like 20 mins ago
It's more accurate to say that the media amplified it for a couple weeks pre-convention. Then THEY moved on from it after the VP debate.
Thank you. He kept saying they were weird and it was always coupled with “staying out of or minding your own business”. The media said that wasn’t good enough for them
If you actually think “we never heard it again” means “Walz has never said the word ‘weird’ again to this day,” I don’t know what to tell you.
I don't why you feel the need to cling to this myth but it's....weird :)
my recollection is that they stopped using it for a while but brought it back closer to the election once it was clear that was a mistake.
Not picking nits for the sake of it as you’ve clearly done the reading (complimentary) - but - this strikes me as quite a lot different than the way he was using “weird” early in the campaign.
He's calling Trump weird. That's what the people wanted and that's what they got. This myth needs to die.
This is easily the dumbest argument I’ve seen on here today.
I think the “weird” line was less “look at this funny shaped potato” initially and much more “we are good and normal for what we want. Our opponents are weird for what they want”. More direct, more explicit, less “careful about insulting republicans”. The Walz vid feels artificially watered down.
This is also after Walz himself blew his debate, killing the momentum that Harris built by winning her debate with Trump. Walz and weird were never going to going to be the ticket to the White House; it's cope to think otherwise.
Thank you for receipts. He KEPT saying it!!!!!
The denials are hilarious. For some reason, nefarious or not, people have needed this to be true but it just isn't
It’s wild to me how people will post so much about election campaigns without ever knowing what candidates actually said or did
Especially when provided evidence that contradicts what they thought. Aren't we supposed to learn from that?
if their highly paid comms staff sucked that is not a fault of the left.
Because it fits the narrative. And you can point to that instead of saying idiot GOP voters have agency too, no matter what Walz said or didn’t say
He kept saying it. The media stopped covering it.
i’m learning now that that is the case but “i’m really fun at parties” magician has been a pedantic ass about it. this is why there’s a leftist/liberal split. he was all like “waaah. don’t deny lived experience.” fine, don’t deny a lot of other people’s then.
That’s not a political difference. That’s a personality conflict.
i guess we’re going to disagree too. that guy is getting ratioed. a lot of people agree that the “weird” thing was good and for our lived experience we only saw it for a bit. if the party has shit messaging it’s not the left’s fault. the centrist/libs were more with liz cheney than the left.
I think the complicit media gets left off the hook way too often. I’m a leftist. I also think putting all the blame on Walz and Harris is ridiculous.
More recent example:
see also Kamala's "I'm speaking, excuse me, I'm speaking."
the slay queen moment of her political career which cost you dipshits everything loolololol
it's not me (or leftists) paying the price but good job ig www.reuters.com/world/middle...
When did she backtrack on that
www.c-span.org/video/?c5127...
that wasn't the backtrack, that's what she backtracked from of course. critical strategic error.
Okay, but how about you answer the question she asked.
here's the backtrack: www.theguardian.com/us-news/vide...
🤷🏻♀️ I thought she did a great job with the absurdly short time she was given, that she stopped some of the bleeding and that Biden would’ve lost all 50 states, and I really like her
yep she showed a lot of strength with "I'm speaking" and should have kept that energy.
I don’t think shutting down Gaza protestors wholesale was necessarily the right strategy either. I actually don’t think theres anything she could’ve done to win amid record inflation and Biden’s unpopularity.
the thing is at the time, voters who are afraid of Hamas outnumbered voters that are mad about Bibi by about 4:1. by trying to ride the fence she lost all 5.
Bill Clinton's "God, guns, and gays"
"basket of deplorables" wasn't even bad in-context. She was specifically talking about the racists and bigots etc. of the Republican party from what I remember
