ABC's case they were worried about losing a lawsuit because George did kind of mess up in his wording big time and it could've been set a disastrous precedent for the free press everywhere if that case went to trial and went badly.

That's b.s. George was quoting the judge, pointing out that NY has this "exception" to the rape law that most states have changed to include any kind of penetration. The judge said it was rape. That's a quote. A perfectly reasonable defense for ABC. All George had to do was cite the source.
