I recently learned that those vaccines were the first time anyone had *ever* successfully created a vaccine for a coronavirus. Of any kind. Saving millions of lives and protecting millions more from long covid to boot? Nothing short of amazing.

In fairness, a big part of that is a lack of investment because we decided apparently that coronaviruses weren’t a priority

In fairness to them not being a priority, none of the others was exactly causing a mass casualty event that threatened to crater global healthcare infrastructure. Said as someone who would happily yeet all copies of SARS-CoV-19 into the nearest black hole.
