Within Asian American communities the use of that word is generally seen as offensive, although the extent varies. Some see it as outdated, some as derogatory and others see it as a slur. I personally would use "chinese" or "person of chinese descent".
It's easier to just block the racists asshats than try to reason with them. especially after they mindlessly throw out "I could have used these other slurs instead" as a defense
True, you’re right. I guess I wanted to give that person the benefit of the doubt but someone who straight up says even more slurs doesn’t deserve that
