His newest executive order demanding states comply with the elimination of mail-in ballots and voting machines is blatantly unconstitutional. But it’s planting the seeds in the minds of his cult that the Democrats will attempt to “steal” the election. Many MAGAt’s already believe 2020 was stolen.
His EO will probably be challenged in court by blue states. And in a functional republic, it would be easily thrown out. But Republicans, led by Mitch McConnell, have spent decades installing Federalist Society and Heritage Foundation hacks in our judiciary. They get no benefit of the doubt.
And even if we get the correct court ruling, we already know Trump wanted to use the military to seize voting machines and ballots in blue states back in 2020. We had people who told him no. We no longer have that. You really think Pam Bondi and Pete Hegseth will reject such an order?
And, when the duly elected officials show up to the Capitol building to do what their constituents elected them to do, what’s to stop Trump from preventing them from entering to take their seats, especially if he can just claim he has concerns about the authenticity and integrity of the midterms?
Mike Johnson as Speaker of the House is essentially in charge of the security and protection of the Capitol Building. You really think he’s going to do the right thing?! You think he’s not going to go along with Trump?! He does what his owner tells him to do.
And all we’ll see from weak, cowardly Democrats like Hakeem Jeffries (assuming he’s still in office) and Chuck Schumer is more finger wagging, angry letters, and lectures about how Trump is destroying norms.
And even if the duly elected Democratic representatives file lawsuits challenging Trump’s clear, unconstitutional abuse of power, that takes time. All the while Republicans illegally hold power in Congress. We’d be in a full blown Constitutional crisis.
Again, I hope I’m wrong and hyperbolic on this. I truly do. But this is my fear…
