They've not done a good job of explaining this at all. The Getting Over podcast, for example, said they were told by someone in the know that only subscribers to a very defined list of cable providers will have free access to all PPVs. I think that's probably 90% true but they have a good amount of time to add more distributors to the list. I imagine most will go along and pay whatever ESPN is asking for and a few may buck but ultimately give in. Same old shit basically.

Good point. One thing I'm curious about that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere: Will sports events on the app finally be broadcast in something better than 720p SD? A minimum of 1080p (often with HDR or Dolby Vision for big events) seems to have become the standard for most streamers at this point.
