"Young said he never meant to run afoul of Supreme Court precedent, ... he 'simply did not understand that orders on the emergency docket were precedent,...[T]his court will absolutely obey and generously adhere to the precedential decisions of the Supreme Court,'" that's ... not an apology

He literally uses the word apologize in his statement though

It’s very, very sarcastic since shadow docket decisions typically don’t create precedent since they’re not usually supported by any opinion/reasoning to draw precedent from. So him saying he’s sorry he didn’t realize it was precedent is *snaps in a zig zag formation*

Yeah I like this interpretation and my first idea was how can you follow a decision with no reasoning.

He said he was apologizing, and he said it in a straight forward, not sarcastic way. I wish audio recording was allowed in federal court because tone is lost in a story like this.

"I really feel it's incumbent upon me to, on the record here, apologize to Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh if they think" no actual apology goes "I am forced to apologize, if" however the tone of voice is an actual apology goes "I apologize for xyz"

i believe he said it with sincerity. it wasn't an apology. it was a middle finger. i don't blame you for the straightforward reporting, but this was a legal middle finger.

Young said the word apologize Followed by "if they think..." I don't doubt what you say about tone But the entire sentence is easily read as implying that if the justices really think that, they're not thinking clearly or fairly

"Wait, you were SERIOUS?" Also, the SC is hardly in a position to accuse anyone of ignoring precedent and court orders when they're constantly running interference for Trump to defy what's left of the courts. "Oh kettle, thou are black, the pot exclaims!"

to put it another way, he did in his own way what the dc circuit just did. "Show. Me. The. Reasoning."

"I really feel it's incumbent upon me to, on the record here, apologize to Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh if they think that anything this court has done has been done in defiance of a precedential action of the Supreme Court in the United States," he said.

I think he was making a point but he was also apologizing. Both can be true and saying otherwise is at best silly.
