What if I like the AI picture more? Isn't that what art is supposed to be about from the observer's point of view? People can find all kinds of abstract efforts speak to them, yet as it means absolutely nothing to somebody else. Is it not about perception? Why does 'humanity' matter?

Art is when someone dangles keys in front of me and I laugh and clap my hands

I realize this is an old post and I'm a stranger but I have to respond No, that is not what "art is supposed to be about." Art is expression. It does not matter who likes it, if anyone. Maybe that matters in a commercial sense, but that's a different conversation. AI art expresses nothing.

In a meta way AI art does express something. It's a powerful critique on what should constitute art. Whether there's a meaningful distinction on art when stuff like this is art. www.sfmoma.org/artwork/98.3... The very model itself is a work of art, the same way Andy Warhol and Jackson Pollock

works are arts in challenging what art means. The images themselves are not art, but the model itself is art.

Art is a human expressing themselves. Ai is a xerox of itself.

The models are created by humans. What makes that creation "not art" while 3 blank canvases are art?

They are not blank canvases.

Okay, fine, given a coat of white paint like how you paint a house.

And the model creators certainly put WAY more thought into the creation of their model than the "banana taped to a wall".

Okay, tell me how dozens of research papers, the architecture setup, the training process, the tagging methods, and the programming involved to implement it all are less "thought" then taping a banana to a wall? Or giving three canvases a flat white coat of paint?

Thought isn't the only ingredient. I'm obviously not going to convince you so good luck in the future.

If after knowing how the machine simply steals and conglomerates the slop into an image, you prefer that, then that's a "you" issue.

There is absolutely metric tons and tons of slop that has come directly from the brains of human beings all of which is worthless. There are also people who actually like it.

The conversation was about whether it's ethical to use ai. People liking it is not my problem to solve. I'm not going to use it. I know people will watch snuff films but I'm not going to make one because of it.
