Found the Crown pub! Shame it’s not a functioning pub.

The exterior of the Crown pub with pictures of Geezer Butler and Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath on the outside. THE BIRTHPLACE OF HEAVY METAL EARLY PHOTOGRAPHS OF BLACK SABBATH KINDLY PROVIDED BY JIM SIMPSON, BIG BEAR MUSIC AND PRESENTED IN THE WINDOWS OF THE CROWN PUB Welcome to the place where it all began. In 1968, a little-known Birmingham band, originally called Earth and quickly renamed Black Sabbath, played their very first gig right here at The Crown pub - now widely regarded as the birthplace of Heavy Metal. This special window exhibition features early photographs by Jim Simpson, who ran Henry's Blueshouse at this venue and became the band's first manager and an acclaimed local music promoter. Through these early images of Ozzy Osbourne, Tony lommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward, we see the raw beginnings of a global phenomenon - candid and historic moments of a band on the cusp of defining a new musical genre. Today, Black Sabbath's sound echoes around the world and across generations - but it all started here, upstairs at The Crown, in Birmingham city centre.
