You cannot wait for worse illegal orders and keep your head down. In the private papers and records of otherwise outstanding German officers in the 1930s they did the same thing and by the time they realize they had to resist, it was too late.

It seems those in command ARE trying to avert disaster. Per a Marines spokesperson the Marines deployed to California have not completed the training required, and could not provide a time line for that training to be completed.

No sir, these excuses are supposedly working behind. The scenes are garbage. There is an Air Force general, giving public briefings saying that the National Guard is in fact not doing anything about riots. They’re actually supporting law-enforcement and detaining civilians

Yeah....you may be right, unfortunately, which is heart breaking. I saw the interaction between Gen Smith and Sen Duckworth, and he said Marines would follow lawful orders. However, as you said, it appears that is already not the case.

Would resigning their commands, prior to this, have been an effective resistance? There's too many Michael Flynns who are all to eager to assume those posts, and not refuse illegal orders. What happens when a General, today, refuses an order on the basis of it being illegal? What's that process?

I'm sure there are a number of Michael Flynns in commands, now. I just hope there are more Generals like Milley than Flynn.
