I just think the fear among conservatives comes from (and can be incited by) many people not actually knowing any trans people.

Being only 1 to 3 % of the population makes it very easy for trans people to be misunderstood or to have lies about them be believed. But its not up to them to make it right... Its up to the rest of us to educate ourselves. Good people will do just that. Bad people, predicatably, never do...
