The issue isn’t low pay; it’s the lack of academic jobs. The US invested astounding amounts in its research infrastructure. Nobody comes close. And now that it’s seemingly collapsed, we’ve got a glut of Americans looking to bail (I don’t blame them as I’m one of them, I just bailed two decades ago!)
