its such a good but also bad idea. Like.. yeah, let us play Virtual boy games. why not? Oh, we gotta have this weird accessory ? Can I not just play these on my TV?

It's a fixable problem if Nintendo wanted to, but they don't. The Nintendo 3DS would have been the ideal console to release Virtual Boy games on. The games all require stereoscopic 3D. Some Emulators have made the games playable without, but I'm sure Nintendo prefers the authentic experience.
The authentic migraine and neck problem inducing experience. But you are right tho. Nintendo is clearly being a stickler for the experience
I'm definitely too old for craning my neck like that. Hopefully the cardboard version can be fitted with a head strap or something. 😆
Thats the one part I don't really get. Like.. yes, stickler for that timing sure. But this was exactly why the thing failed to begin with. So... why do that? I get releasing one for the experience but.... why is that the ONLY way to play
I'm honesty kind of hoping a third party steps in with an alternative option.
I mean, if they did a cardboard version, I imagine someone will have a way for you to make it yourself/ a third party or again, with any luck they will just release a version that lets folks play this without the features on a regular TV
themeing, not timing. Damn Bluesky, I want a edit button
That's in 2026 right before the full fascism update.
On 3DS, bright colors on a dark background cause light bleed. All virtual boy games involve bright red on black, so every game would have severe crosstalk, making the 3D effect look bad. If Nintendo ever tested virtual boy on 3DS they may have decided it wasn’t suitable due to screen limitations.
Interesting. I definitely did not know this.
Is this true in practice though Because there's a Virtual Boy emulator for 3DS called Red Viper that uses the 3D and as far as I remember it looks fine. Does it have the problem you're describing?
Red Viper looks great and you can even change the color if you dislike the original red.
I haven't tried it yet, as my new3DSxl is still unmodified.
You shouldn't say things like that. At any moment someone could appear and say that it's incredibly easy to mod your 3DS.
The cardboard version is nice especially if they tell you how to make one, but if anything it just adds another layer of skepticism of this being available to buy a year from now. This is quirky Nintendo scalper gold. Many people will buy it just to either collect on a shelf or for resell.
yeah, thats a big problem with it
