Most conservatives I’ve met (and I have lived in red states only) feel that military service is the only way other than money to earn an education or healthcare. But every other way is a “hand out”. You’ve got to remember they are well accustomed to doing backflips around logic
My partners parents promised her they would pay for any school she wanted She wanted to go to a performing arts school, they said no. I understand where they came from since they’re conservatives but you can’t say any but, especially because she herself was a theater kid who took it every year.
Yeah sure the acting could be a bust in the big leagues but so is any other degree, people who do Chicago theater don’t do it to get big, they do it to make the best theater they can. But the whole “Uncle Sam can educate me and they pay for it” feels like a handout of its own lol
I mean, it’s a gamble. Plenty of people have gone into the military just for access to education and never got it because they died in service. There are more ways to pay for something than money and I think the price the military requires is far too high
