The author is part of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. From my understanding, the phase from her book isn't referencing literal translation but more reflecting the interconnected relationship between the indigenous peoples and the plants around them. Seeing them as more active participants and 🧵
caregivers, such as medicine and well being and the words they used for them reflected that concept. Literal translations vary but the sentiment is the same. Without the context of the book i can see how that qoute is confusing or misleading. Apologies if that was the case.
