The US advised UKR not to accept the Russian terms back in 2021. Now those terms are even harsher, mainy people are dead/injured, infrastructure is destroyed. You can debate what is fair but this is the reality and fairness is not part of the equation nor was it ever.

the bigger problem is that Russia is winning the war and short of the US and Eur sending in both troops (not happening) and way more weapons (they are in short supply) UKR is going to be destroyed. It might not be fair but in the end this is going to end entirely on Russian terms.

It seems that there are deeper connections involved. Trump could be very much aware of who Putin is but the two share a goal of destabilizing Europe, which apparently efficiently paves the way for their partnership.
