You know the democrats held the house and senate through the 80’s. The GOP had nothing to do with spending up til then.

Reagan worked with Tip O’Neil. Times were different and crossing the isle was ok. Still the democrats held the purse strings.

Right, there was more collaboration. Plus that's when many of the Democrats were "Dixiecrats," so more like Republicans. Reagan pushed through huge tax cuts and big increases in defense spending. Dems held their ground at not allowing the big Medicare and Social Security Cuts Reagan pushed for. 🤷
