My most Gen X take is that podcasters shouldn’t be interviewed in documentaries unless they have some qualification other than a podcast (graduate degree, book on the topic, first-hand knowledge, whatever).

Right. Yet, that's not how it seems to work these days. Can't count the number of docs and shows I've seen recently interviewing podcasters whose entire knowledge is based on the wiki article and a couple newspaper clips they read while making an episode of their own show.
Yeah, nothing new here. This has been going on for a long time
