I was suggesting transparent aluminum chainmail because it would look cool as fuck, not because ceramic chainmail is a practical idea. The 'best' chainmail is probably just cheap assed steel because it's not going to stop a bullet no matter how good the chain mail is, and steel's cheap and workable.

There are boron nitride polymer composites that can make chain mails that stop bullets. Scale mails are preferred because they reduce the injuries underneath much better, though.

chain is just not a good armour against anything that could potentially fragment smaller than the gaps in the chains, sure you could make links that would individually survive bullets, and/or be small enough that only enough to superficially wound the wearer gets though, but chemicals go through :(

Chemicals are a very different thing, where tivek underneath (DIFFERENT better bonded milk jug) is the best practice, but scale mail disperses energy the best so that's preferred in bulletproof
