This is, indeed, the stupidest FT piece I have read in a long time, and that speaks volumes. Plus: will someone explain Swiftie-mania to me? Maybe I am just a senescent boomer who still listens to Pink Floyd, but while she admittedly has some talent, I do not see ANYTHING special about her.
The same was said about The Beatles 60+ years ago. She's a pop star who understands that her job is to 'entertain' her fans. It's not art. One doesn't go to her shows to sit & listen or stare at their navels while yet another 'jam band' solos for two hours. She's all about the vibe, as it should be.
I obviously wasn’t talking about the music. I was talking about how it’s a group of people who go to see multiple shows, who trade and give away stuff at the shows, who share information and friendship bracelets, and whatever. It’s a scene.

Yeah, I kind of get it now, so credit where it is due. Thing about the Beatles was, however, their songwriting, which even in their "boy band" days was superior to almost anything else. I don't think her songwriting is in anywhere near that, but you could say the same of most music now AND then.
The thing about The Beatles is 'eventually' their songwriting matured beyond the 'boy band' genre, which set the template for most modern rock bands. Taylor Swift is the product of the marriage between country & pop. Think Dolly without the Tennessee twang. Taylor is good, just not my cup of tea.
One of my kids is really into her. I think it’s the lyrics more than anything. Also, it’s a scene. I saw someone joke about how it’s kind of like being a deadhead, but it really is.
