Republicans in Mississippi have made sure people in Mississippi are cut off from Bluesky. SCOTUS helped. Bluesky is too small to implement age verification. Hopefully they can figure this out soon. techcrunch.com/2025/08/22/b...

The majority of voters of the state of Mississippi have made it clear that they want to stay ignorant My daughter once lived there and her daughter came home and told her mother they sat in class for three weeks coloring When my daughter asked about the curriculum, teacher said fixin to get to it
Sad! 😪
and I did not make that up, it is the truth 💯 that was in Tupelo, maybe Elvis wouldn't have made it if he didn't leave there
That’s unbelievable. It does explain a lot about Mississippi. I’m very glad to have grown up in New York where public schools are (for the most part) very good to excellent. I can’t live in a red State. I’m an Agnostic. I won’t pretend otherwise. I won’t pretend to be subservient to men, or the rich

Can they access X?
Even if they could, it's a bad idea. It makes no sense, really. What it does is creates a database of images that include IDs and face pics, almost certainly those of the underage kids that attempt to get on. That's a bad thing, but that the law requires. What if it got hacked?
Now they are coming after Bluesky. Trying to control all media that he considers "woke". He will probably try to shut it down, I wouldn't doubt it.
They can always do, "Are you over eighteen?" Then the lawmakers can bring that to court as insufficient.
Bluesky should NOT be complying with this fascism. PERIOD!
I’m from Mississippi, turn off WiFi I’m still able to post.
Mississippi Goddam! - this song never stops being relevant to Amerikkkuh. www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HM2...
This is from the fascist playbook 😳🤬
What about the hell site? Do they have implemented this verification for Mississippi?
Using child safety as a pretext while Mississippi government force young girls or teenage girs who were r*ped to carry the child is hypocritical.
Child safety & Mississippi probably shouldn't be in the same sentence. Why is Mississippi law that females can marry at age 15 with parental consent, but it's 17 for males?
Could Bluesky users employ a VPN browser to mask that their IP address is in MS? I realize it would add an extra step and discourage many, but for those who know how to do VPN, it could be a short term solution.

Mississippi is shit innit! It’s time to secede from Red states and let them rot!
I know it is tempting, but this is not the answer. I am born-n-raised in Texas, but I am solid Blue. Red states have just as many Democrats as most other states. The difference is that Republicans got the majority years ago, then changed the rules to make sure they stayed in power forever.
Mississippi, where the average IQ is in single digits.🤨
Why can't the smaller platforms get together and help create a shared service that can be used by any and all platforms to do the age verification task? Outsource the task.
My understanding from the blogpost is that is done in house, and that information be stored, and that this be done just to access the site UK's OSA allows this outsourcing and only requires the verification to access certain content and features.+
The Mississippi law is like looking at where the UK's OSA is, and then amplifying all the worst aspects of it: must be done in-house, must be stored long term, aggressive tracking of underage users, and verification needed just to access social media.
Tbh, this might not be the tragedy you think it is. Bluesky is just another moron magnet.
Come on Blue Sky. We need our friends in Mississippi to stay informed. Hoping they can get this addressed quickly.
With the UK's maligned Online Safety Act, age verification is only needed to added certain content and features, and it can be outsourced to other companies. Mississippi wants these companies themselves to do the verification just to access the site, and want the activity of minors heavily tracked+
Presumably this means not just what they are saying, or hitting like on, but what they are viewing and searching for.+
I do agree that children should not have access to porn, but it is on the parents to make sure that's the case. Times have changed, it's no longer a matter of keeping those tapes or books hidden from them, but every device has parental controls, it's their responsibility to set them up and use them.
Kids know how to get around parental controls. They do tho gs like change the time zone on their phone to use phones during restricted times for instance. Follow Officer Gomez on FB. He’s a school resource officer and knows the ins and outs of what kids are doing.
