I've seen lots of "retire early" stuff on socials. Then what's your purpose? Waking up with some purpose makes life worth living.

My purpose would be enjoying life. Being out in nature, having more time for sports, for DIY projects, maybe even try my hands at art. I'd also be able to spend more time doing social work in the neighbourhood, helping kids and families who are less privileged than me. My purpose isn't work.
Similar for me. It frees my time to do things that are enjoyable and meaningful to me. It’s not to say that I don’t enjoy working as a Test Engineer, which is why I avoid management roles like the plague.
I just remembered this quote from a book I read recently. Reading it for the first time made me reflect a lot on what I want my life to be like and how I could get there.
"Work to live" vs "Live to work". I really don't miss working full time anymore. I am enjoying having time doing my projects without having to fit them into my schedule. But retirement without a plan isn't a good thing.
You never retire from things you love doing. Keep doing and you will never retire. Stuff you did to live is secondary as you get old. Ensuring that you saved for rainy day to fall back upon as you move on to stuff you really enjoy doing full time. I am sure you will miss friends you made on the way
For sure I miss friends I made, but I do keep in touch with many through social media and video calls. I haven't completely "retired". But, I no longer teach or consult, or travel to conferences. And that feels right to me.
Love this.
