I swear if you say Indians one more time referring to indigenous people and me I'm going to fucking scream. We're NOT Indians. We are indigenous people. "Indian" is a slur. And refers to entirely different people of ANOTHER settler colony.

Her defense of using that slur is the exact moment I turned her off. Apparently, the video just got worse from there. Much, much worse. I'm glad to see other people calling her out for it, and all the other awful stuff, in that video.
She said like 13 times and I cut it off. I think i got to 30 min in and I just couldn't do another minute
Genuinely hope Abigail listens to y'all and takes steps to correct this.
She's doing an audiobook recording for Lindsay Ellis so probably not, listening to Indigenous people and correcting their racist behavior isn't their greatest skill.
I haven't watched the video yet but if there is any Jackson apologizing or defense in this video I will not watch anything else she puts out.
Wait is Lindsay Ellis also bad? I know she did a video like last week abt ms Rachel that looked like it might be good (haven’t watched it bc it’s very long but seems to be abt empathy)
Yes, Lindsay Ellis is also racist.
Ughhhhhhhhhhhhh ty for informing me
Don't speak ill of Lindsay Ellis she's like Breadtuber Saint Mary or something.
Fuck Lindsay Ellis
💯
@theabigailthorn.bsky.social Some notes here.
She doesn’t care
Disappointing.
She felt like she was the authority to make this video and didn't know to do THAT much?
That's a great point. Thorn does add a later post video edit that these terms are acceptable, but Thorn uses these terms interchangeably, but the term indigenous is the proper one.
The racist white woman doesn't get to decide which terms that were used to demonize us are acceptable or not.
Yes, you are right.
What I find troubling, is there's also just some bits about Native history she also just... gets wrong. But the sort of thing a Native script consultant would have caught. So it's just very clear she didn't consider Native folk worth consulting about our own oppression.
Which is... I mean, it's very British if nothing else. She isn't a small channel. She was in Star Wars for God's sake. She has the income to hire a Native script consultant & evidently didn't consider us worth consulting.
Yes, those are excellent points. It's disconcerting that given the facts, she is a successful actress and yet appears to not interview or contact or correspond with an Indigenous person while doing her research.
I had a thread about all of this from a few weeks ago when I watched the video on Nebula; & I had a reply specifically too her about these points, & while I have no reason to believe she even saw my post... I am still disappointed she didn't amend these changes between then & now.
Yes, it's disappointing that changes were not made to the video.
She’s a white British lady I feel like maybe we were wrong to have any hope lol
Are you able to share that? I would be very interested in it.
It doesn't have anything that isn't already in these replies. But I can probably dig it up.

Thank you so much!
It's worse when you check the sources and the extent of their use. This is the source mentioned in the video for the decision to use the I-Word. Right away there's several things that jump out if one were trying to use this as a source on proper terminology. www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhTb...
