At a certain point, it becomes nigh on suicidal to prioritize the well-being of communities whose populations overwhelmingly want me and mine to suffer over our own. We’re well past that point.

Now you're generalizing. Which communities? Everywhere in the US has a mix of left and right-leaning people, including urban centers.
Yes, I am. What’s your fucking point? I should give a shit about regions proud to vote fascist by Assad margins? Fuck ‘em.
You should give a shit because they are people just like you, with children, undocumented people, and other people who cannot make their voices heard on voting maps. Should I say “fuck ‘em” to the kids at bus stops in red states, or is that only okay when it’s indirect like you’re doing?
For every one decent person helped by continuing to throw money at rural communities who resent where that money comes from, there’s another 2-4 people who would happily say “fuck ‘em” to me and my neighbors. We’re done cleaning up their shit.
If rural communities love their children more than they love racism, they can simply start voting for Democrats. Otherwise, their revealed preferences are crystal clear.
I appreciate the confirmation that kids dying is okay as long as they live in the same county as a lot of stupid adults. That's not psychotic at all.
This is your argument, summarized.
Never said that, I said they shouldn’t die from lack of medical care.
Right, you just think that in the absence of other options it’s preferable that people like me and my neighbors do instead.
Nobody’s claiming it’s okay. That being said, the stupid adults responsible for their care abdicated that responsibility to indulge their prejudices instead. If the rest of us clean up their mess for them, what’s to stop them from just doing it again? Saving them from themselves is a moral hazard.
