Hmm. If he dies…and I don’t think he’ll be that obliging, or we’ll be that lucky, the evil have a notorious habit for lingering… I think there will be a lot of excuses and dithering. An attempt to backtrack on the extreme policies while simultaneously defending them
and trying to appease independents, by rolling back the extreme deportations. They’ll keep what they love, which are the tax cuts to billionaires. They love the power and they’ll want the status quo but without the appearance of overt fascism.
The importance will be for opposing parties to push for laws to *never* allow a Trump to step into power again. And this is the best case scenario if he dies. If he doesn’t we’re talking puppet fascism for years.
Thank you - obviously I meant Vance not Trump, but despite my shame at mistyping, the idea that the system can and might right itself feels hopeful and possible.
I think hope is all we have. But I don’t think righting itself is possible. We will have to push for a robust legislative overhaul, and ideally, a review of the Constitution and S.C. that have overly empowered the Executive over the course over generations. If this government is to survive,
it will have to have the other two branches take back power from the Executive to give the people back more of their voice. The population is so apathetic, though. It’s not a good situation. We’re either committed via inertia (his death) to a tame, half hearted righting of the ship or
an absolute disaster (economic, or mortality-wise, pandemic, war) so that people care enough to push for the needed change. We have to look at voting percentages and current complacency with the status quo. People are just letting fascism happen in real time 🤷🏼♀️
Believe me, it is hard to get up in the morning and live normally, thinking about all this.
